"Oh, you know girls just mature faster than boys."

Hmm did you ever consider

that might be because boys’ indiscretions are excused with a simple “Boys will be boys,”

while we simultaneously force girls to grow up too fast by sexualizing them at increasingly younger ages?

If I’ve learnt anything from my contact with the bdsm community, the poly community, the geek community and the atheist community is that any social group who claims to “not to be like other groups” and to be”accepting and safe for all” is going to spend a lot of energy hiding the predators within the community and silencing abuse survivors.

Anonymous asked: How do I not feel guilty about wanting to die?

Answer:

gaywrites:

askgaywrites:

Oh, my dear. I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this. It’s okay to feel guilty about depression. Society tells us that as long as someone else has it worse than us, we don’t have a right to our sadness. But that’s not true. You have the right to your feelings. You have the right to feel a mountain of someone else’s molehill. You have the right to feel this bad. But I really, really hope you stop feeling like that really, really soon.

I truly hope that feeling guilty isn’t the only thing keeping you around. I would never wish that kind of burden on someone, but I do wish for whatever intervention or feeling or revelation it takes to make you know and see and believe that the world is better when you’re in it. There are more reasons to live than feeling guilty about your death.

How do you stop feeling guilty? I don’t know. The more important question, I think, is how do you stop wanting to die? I don’t have one answer for that either. What I can tell you is that so many people have been there. I have been there. And I know that telling you it’s not uncharted territory is not the same as taking the weight off, but I hope you can take comfort in knowing that it’s possible for the feelings to pass. It’s even likely. And you can take as much time as you need to get there, as long as you promise me you’re gonna try to get there. It’s a process. Maybe you’ll never feel 100%. But you can feel better than you feel now.

If you want to talk off anon, please do. Or email me at gaywritesblog at gmail. Or anything at all. I am not a professional and none of this should be taken as professional advice, but I am a willing listener if you need one. And if you can do so safely, it would really mean a lot to me if you’d seek out professional help, too. There are plenty of places where you can do so cheaply and privately.

Please be okay, darling. We need you here. I believe in you.

I don’t know if the original anon will ever see this, but just in case, maybe reblog with some love? I hate not knowing what to say.

***URGENT PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT***
Grindr, a popular app for gay men, now carries an urgent warning for users in Egypt. According to many sources, Egyptian authorities are posing as LGBT people on various social media sites to identify and arrest homosexual people. The app is urging users in the region to proceed with extreme caution, especially when identifying themselves or arranging meetings/hookups. While so far the focus seems to be on gay men, all LGBT people in the area should be cautious. Reports show that Egyptian police have carried out violent raids on private homes which lead to the arrests of several gay men. These men were then subjected to disturbing medical “exams.” Police also raided an LGBT party last year, violently arresting many and sentencing them to up to 12 years hard labour. While homosexuality is not illegal in Egypt, athorities are using sexual deviance, debauchery and insulting public morals as terms for the crackdown. Many claim this fresh attack on the LGBT community is lead by President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi who wishes for his country to be more Islamic.
For all of my LGBT friends here on tumblr, please be extremely careful as this situation develops. Remember to clear your search history, use private browsing if possible, and be extremely cautious with who you talk to online.

How We Found Out About COINTELPRO

1,600 infiltrators in an organisation of 2,500 people…what

I bet half of them were informing on one another

(via class-struggle-anarchism)

There were twelve programs under COINTELPRO covering different sets of organizations, including the Puerto Rican Independence Movement, the New Left, the American Indian Movement, the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), and almost needless to say, the Communist Party, which had been an FBI target for decades. The FBI infiltrated Liberation News Service (LNS), a New Left version of the Associated Press, using disinformation to make LNS seem an FBI front, and set up a phony newspaper to hire young radicals in order to spy on them. Following a lawsuit by the SWP, it was revealed that an organization with 2,500 members had been infiltrated by 1,600 informers—thus actually strengthening the group for a time, one could reasonably suppose. At one point, according to David Cunningham’s 2004 book There’s Something Happening Here: The New Left, The Klan, and FBI Counterintelligence, about 6 percent of Klan members were informers, including some of the top leaders.
